Divisions
competitive, recreational or somewhere in between
Teams in our top division have likely played together in previous seasons, and the games can be more competitive than in our lower divisions. Players are experienced ball players with skills on both sides of the plate. Although the games are still just for fun, they can be more fast paced with a higher intensity level. New players are reminded that even in Division 1, the BMSPL should always be considered a recreational league – players looking to take the games too seriously are encouraged to find a league better suited to competitive play.

Teams in our middle division tend to include a more diverse talent mix, with some experienced ball players and some rookies. Friends or family with varying talent levels often come together to play in Division 2. If you are new to the game but consider yourself a strong athlete, or if you are coming out of retirement to play softball again after a few years away from the game this may be the division for you. The games are fun, with a moderate intensity.

Teams in our lower division can still play ball. They may just enjoy a very casual atmosphere and probably don’t put too much emphasis on winning and losing. Teams typically include a broad mix of player experience and talent level. Some veteran ball players join Division 3 with friends or family that are newer to the game and can also help teach the game to other new players on their team. The games are fun with a low intensity.
